Hamilton Academical expect a winding up petition lodged by HMRC in relation to a legacy debt of the club to be withdrawn.

Hamilton Academical are breathing a sigh of relief as they anticipate the withdrawal of a winding-up petition from HMRC, linked to a debt inherited from the club's previous ownership. The Scottish League 1 side confirmed that the tax authority has filed the petition, but the club has already provided proof of "imminent incoming funds" and proposed a repayment plan to resolve the matter.

With just eight days to submit their formal response, the Accies remain optimistic, stating they "fully expect the matter will be resolved and the petition subsequently withdrawn." This development marks a potential turning point for a club that has weathered a stormy period both on and off the pitch.

Since Rob Edwards' Morley Sports Management Group took over from Seref Zengin in January, the club has been on a rocky road. The previous 18 months saw multiple points deductions and relegation from the Championship due to a series of rule breaches, while players even threatened to go on strike earlier this season over unpaid wages as the club fought to avoid insolvency.

Off the field, there's a glimmer of stability: Accies plan to return to their historic home, New Douglas Park, next season after a temporary stint at Broadwood in Cumbernauld. On the pitch, the team finished second bottom of their division after a staggering 21-point deduction, but they've clawed their way into the League 1 play-offs. Currently leading League 2 side 3-1 at the midway stage of their semi-final, they'll face off again at Broadwood on Saturday. Meanwhile, Clyde hold a 2-0 advantage over Spartans in the other semi-final.

For Hamilton fans, this news offers hope that the club's focus can finally shift from survival to success—both in the boardroom and on the grass.
