Cleveland Guardians rookie left-hander Parker Messick authored a night he'll never forget, carrying a no-hitter into the ninth inning in a thrilling 4-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday. The 25-year-old was masterful, walking two and matching a career-high with nine strikeouts over eight-plus innings of work.

Messick, making just his 11th big-league start, was in complete control, facing just one batter over the minimum through eight dominant frames. The tension at Progressive Field peaked in the ninth, however, when Leody Taveras' ground ball snuck past a diving Juan Brito for a single, breaking up the historic bid. After another single, Messick exited to a roaring standing ovation from the crowd.

The Guardians' offense provided crucial early support. José Ramírez, continuing his power surge, launched a two-run homer in the first inning—his third blast in four games. Steven Kwan and George Valera later added RBI singles to build a 4-0 lead, which proved vital as the Orioles mounted a late rally against the bullpen.

While the no-hit bid ended in heartbreak, Messick's performance was a monumental step forward for the young pitcher and a bright spot for Cleveland. It also served as a stark reminder of how rare the feat is; the Guardians hold the longest active drought in baseball, their last no-hitter being Len Barker's perfect game back in 1981.

The series continues Friday as the Guardians look to build on this momentum, sending Tanner Bibee to the mound against Baltimore's Chris Bassitt.
