Flag football is exploding in popularity, offering a fast-paced, accessible version of the game for athletes of all ages. But as participation soars, a critical question emerges: how do we keep players safe in a sport billed as "non-contact"? Guardian Sports, a leader in athletic protection, is tackling this challenge head-on.
In a recent interview, Guardian Sports COO Jake Hanson highlighted the company's mission to bring top-tier safety to the flag football revolution. "Flag football is growing exponentially," Hanson stated. "These athletes are flying around out there. Just because it's a no-contact sport doesn't mean there's no contact. We wanted to provide a solution for those accidental blows."
This focus on incidental contact—the unexpected elbow, the hard fall—led to the creation of the LOOP, a pioneering padded headband. First launched in 2019, the LOOP utilizes soft-shell technology to mitigate impacts while maintaining comfort with a Versaknit, sweat-wicking exterior.
The push for safety aligns with the sport's broader growth, championed by organizations like the Kansas City Chiefs. Their 'Let Her Play' campaign advocates for sanctioning girls' high school flag football in Kansas, emphasizing that expanding opportunity must go hand-in-hand with advancing protection.
Now, Guardian Sports is taking the next step. In partnership with iconic sports equipment brand Schutt, they have launched a new generation of the LOOP. This evolution is designed specifically for non-helmeted sports, ensuring that as flag football reaches new heights, player safety remains the top priority.
