FRANKLIN FURNACE — Some of the greatest athletes in sports history have adorned the No. 3 — and have become synonymous with the number in establishing their legacies. Some of sports' most legendary figures have worn the number 3, from NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt to the NBA's Allen Iverson and MLB's Babe Ruth. Now, Green High School's junior pitcher Gabe Blevins is authoring his own chapter of excellence in that storied digit.

Blevins delivered a masterclass on the mound Thursday, pitching a complete-game, three-hit shutout and striking out six to lead the Green Bobcats to a nail-biting 1-0 victory over Portsmouth. He didn't just dominate from the rubber; he also drove in the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth inning, proving to be the ultimate two-way threat.

This win wasn't an isolated event—it's part of a historic start. The Bobcats are now a perfect 10-0 to begin the 2026 season, and their pitching has been nothing short of dominant. With this victory, the team has recorded an astonishing eight shutouts in those ten games.

The heart of this dominance lies in a devastating one-two punch. Blevins and fellow ace Jon Knapp have combined to throw six shutouts already. Their combined stat line is eye-popping: a perfect 6-0 record, 71 strikeouts, and a mere three walks allowed over 43.1 innings of work.

"That's a prime example of being locked in," said Green head coach David Shoupe. "It's also an example of good mechanics and a lot of confidence. I'm so pleased with them. It's so nice to have somebody to complement Jon. We've got that one-two punch."

For Blevins, being part of this special run is a thrill. "It feels awesome," he said. "I can't remember the last time Green started a season 10-0. I hope that we can keep the ball rolling."

The Bobcats' pitching prowess is making a serious impression across the district. When informed of Blevins and Knapp's combined numbers, Portsmouth head coach Aaron Duncan's reaction said it all—his eyebrows rose noticeably. It was likely the same reaction he had a day earlier, after Green mercy-ruled small-school powerhouse Whiteoak 10-0.

"You can tell," Duncan acknowledged, referencing the team's formidable performance against Whiteoak. With a pitching staff this locked in and a perfect record to defend, the Green Bobcats are building a legacy that demands everyone's attention.
