Tuesday was a fantastic day for high school sports across the Green Bay area, with baseball, softball, soccer, track and field, and tennis teams all in action. Here's a roundup of the highlights that had fans on the edge of their seats.
In baseball, the Bay Port Pirates pulled off a thrilling extra-inning victory against Notre Dame, winning 3-2 in a Fox River Classic Conference showdown. The game was tied heading into the eighth inning, but Bay Port's bats came alive just in time. Cayden Heier, Carson Hawley, Eli Hart, and Ethan Orlando each tallied two hits, with Orlando smacking a solo home run and Hawley ripping two doubles. Heier added a double and drove in two runs. On the mound, Parker Broehm delivered three innings of one-hit ball, striking out four to earn the win. For Notre Dame, Brennen Frelich pitched the final two innings and took the loss.
Over in Pulaski, the De Pere Redbirds jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and never looked back, cruising to a Fox River Classic Conference win over the Red Raiders. De Pere's offense collected seven hits and capitalized on five walks and three Pulaski errors. Fisher Anderson drove in two runs, while Gavin Geiser chipped in with two hits. Ryland Nowak was dominant on the hill, tossing a complete game and allowing just four hits and one unearned run while striking out seven.
Manitowoc provided some extra-inning drama, scoring a run in the seventh to force extras and then winning it with a run in the eighth against the Jaguars. Gabe Eichmann and Nick Minikel both recorded two hits to lead the Ships' offense.
Sheboygan North's Keaton Sohn was untouchable, pitching a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Golden Raiders past Green Bay Southwest. Sohn walked just one batter and struck out seven. His teammates gave him plenty of support, with Brett Rybarczyk collecting four hits—including a double and two triples—and driving in five runs. Blake Becker added a home run and three RBIs. Brayden Kelsey took the loss for Green Bay Southwest.
Green Bay Preble edged past the Hornets, taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning and scoring the winning run in the fourth. David Petasek led the way with two hits and an RBI.
Finally, in Seymour, pitching dominated as the Thunder scored the game's only run in the fifth inning to defeat the Bluejays in a Bay Conference matchup. Brayden Banker drove in the winning run with a single and also starred on the mound, leading Seymour to a hard-fought victory.
Whether you're a player, coach, or fan, it was a day to remember on the diamond. Stay tuned for more action as the season heats up!
