The transfer portal strikes again.

The transfer portal has once again reshaped the landscape of college basketball, and the Big Ten is no exception. With the portal entry deadline now behind us, it's the perfect time to grade how each team has fared so far. Keep in mind, these grades only reflect players who have already entered and exited the portal—not those still seeking eligibility waivers.

Let's start with Illinois. This one is tricky. The Fighting Illini are losing Keaton Wagler to the NBA Draft, and Kylan Boswell is graduating, but the players who transferred out didn't see much action last season. On the bright side, key returnees like Andrej Stojaković, David Mirković, and the Ivišić brothers—Tomislav and Zvonimir—are all coming back. Their lone portal addition is Providence guard Stefan Vaaks, a unanimous Big East All-Freshman Team selection. At 6-foot-7, Vaaks is a towering guard who averaged 15.8 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game with the Friars. That's an A+ caliber pickup, but with only one new face in the mix, it's hard to give Illinois higher than a B- overall.

Now, Indiana has put together not just the best transfer class in the Big Ten, but arguably a top-three class in the entire country. Under new head coach Darian DeVries, the Hoosiers have reloaded in a big way. Yes, they lost Nick Dorn to the portal, but the incoming talent is staggering. Alabama forward Aidan Sherrell, Notre Dame guard Markus Burton, SMU's 7-foot-2 center Samet Yiğitoğlu, Georgia Tech guard Jaeden Mustaf, Villanova guard Bryce Lindsay, and Duke guard/forward Darren Harris are all headed to Bloomington. It wouldn't be surprising to see five of these six transfers in the starting lineup on opening night. Indiana signed six power conference players who were among the most impactful on their former teams, and that kind of depth and experience is a game-changer.

Of course, not every team can hit a home run. Losing a player like Alvaro Folguieras is a tough blow for any program, and Bennett Stirtz is headed elsewhere too. But for the teams that have made smart, calculated moves, the transfer portal remains a powerful tool to build a contender. As the offseason continues, it's clear that the Big Ten is stacking up talent in a big way—and the competition is only going to get fiercer.
