Gotham FC has secured a cornerstone piece of its future, announcing a contract extension with dynamic midfielder Jaelin Howell that will keep her with the club through the 2028 season. This long-term commitment signals the club's faith in Howell as a central figure in their quest to return to championship form.

"I’m really excited to continue with Gotham FC and keep building on what we’ve created here," said Howell. "This is a special group, and I’m grateful to be part of a team that pushes each other every day to be better."

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder proved indispensable in 2025, featuring in nearly every match across the NWSL regular season and the Concacaf W Champions Cup. Her impact was felt on both sides of the ball; she led Gotham in fouls drawn (40), a testament to her ability to disrupt opponents and win advantageous positions. Defensively, she was a force, finishing among the league's elite in duels, ranking third overall (340) and second in duels won (214).

Gotham's leadership was unequivocal in their praise. "Jaelin has been a key contributor since she joined our club, and she’s an important presence in our midfield," said General Manager Yael Averbuch West. "Her leadership, work rate and ability to impact both sides of the ball make her a valuable part of our team."

Howell's pedigree is impressive. A two-time NCAA champion at Florida State University, she was selected second overall in the 2022 NWSL Draft by Racing Louisville, where she quickly became a leader, earning the captain's armband in just her second professional season. After a mid-2024 trade to Seattle Reign, she found a permanent home with Gotham FC ahead of the 2025 season in a significant trade.

While the reigning champions have struggled out of the gate in the 2026 season, currently sitting 13th in the standings, locking down a talent like Howell provides stability and a foundation for a turnaround. Gotham FC will look to build momentum in their next match at home on April 25 against Bay FC, with Howell's tenacity in midfield setting the tone.
