The Gophers football program just got a whole lot bigger—and we mean that literally. On Saturday, Lakeville South offensive lineman Joseph Hamer announced his commitment to the University of Minnesota, bolstering the team's 2027 recruiting class with a player who brings both size and skill to the trenches.
Standing at an imposing 6-foot-7 and weighing in at 320 pounds, Hamer is a force to be reckoned with. The three-star recruit chose the Gophers over offers from Arkansas, Iowa State, and Kansas State, making it clear that staying in-state was a priority. "After a great conversation with my family and coaches, I am blessed to announce my commitment to the University of Minnesota to continue my academic and athletic career," Hamer shared on social media.
Hamer's journey to Minnesota began in January when the Gophers extended their offer. He's already planning his official visit for late May, giving fans plenty of reason to be excited. According to Rivals analyst Allen Trieu, Hamer's "extremely flexible" for his massive frame—a rare combination that makes him a standout prospect at offensive tackle.
Currently ranked as the ninth-best player in the state of Minnesota, Hamer is the 12th overall commit to the Gophers' 2027 class and the sixth from within state lines. He joins Cedar Rapids native Will Clausen, a 6-foot-5, 280-pound interior lineman who committed on April 19, as the second offensive lineman in the class. Together, they're shaping up to be the foundation of a formidable front line for years to come.
For Gophers fans, this commitment is more than just a win on the recruiting trail—it's a statement that Minnesota is keeping homegrown talent close to home. As Hamer prepares to suit up in maroon and gold, the future of the offensive line is looking brighter than ever.
