Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief as a dramatic contract U-turn looks set to keep Keyrol Figueroa at Anfield. The 19-year-old forward, who had been tipped to leave the club, is now expected to sign a new deal and stay with his boyhood team.

This news comes at a crucial time for the Reds, who face significant uncertainty in their attacking options heading into next season. With Alexander Isak currently the only senior fit striker—and the Swede's injury record a concern after a broken leg sidelined him for much of his debut campaign—depth up front has become a top priority.

The situation is further complicated by Hugo Ekitike's devastating Achilles injury. The 23-year-old Frenchman, who scored 17 goals across all competitions this season, suffered the setback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and faces up to a year on the sidelines. With sporting director Richard Hughes unlikely to spend big on another No. 9, promoting from within has emerged as the most sensible solution.

Enter Figueroa. The Honduran youngster has been in sparkling form for the Premier League 2 side since returning from injury, catching the eye of several European clubs. Porto and PSV were both linked with a January move, and with his contract expiring in summer 2026, there were real fears he would run down his deal to secure a move elsewhere.

However, according to the Liverpool Echo, the sharpshooter has performed a stunning about-face. Despite signing with high-profile agency P&P Sport Management—led by Federico Pastorello—in anticipation of a transfer, Figueroa is now set to commit his future to Liverpool. For a club looking to balance the books while maintaining attacking firepower, this could be the perfect solution: a ready-made talent from the youth ranks, eager to prove himself on the biggest stage.
