Mason Miller was given the chance to tie Cla Meredith for the San Diego Padres franchise record for most innings without allowing a run at 33.2 innings, thanks to a late-inning rally that gave the Padres a 10-8 win in the rubber match with the Colorado Rockies. Miller came on to close the game with a scoreless ninth inning after San Diego scored six runs over the final two frames. Gavin Sheets put the Padres ahead in the ninth with a three-run home run to cap a five-run inning. It was a fitting result for the left-handed slugger who was celebrating his birthday. San Diego starter Matt Waldron allowed six runs on eight hits over five innings of work. He also allowed three walks and recorded three strikeouts. The Padres offense was able to score four runs over the first five innings, but looked destined to drop the series finale to the Rockies as the home team held an 8-4 lead heading to the eighth inning.

San Diego cut the deficit to 8-5 with a run in the eighth, but it was the top of the ninth against Colorado closer Victor Vodnik where the Padres did their damage. The right-handed reliever came on in the top of the eighth and got Fernando Tatis Jr. to strikeout with runners at first and second to end the inning. Vodnik returned to the mound in the top of the ninth and walked Jackson Merrill before allowing singles to Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts and Miguel Andujar to make the score, 8-7. With no outs and runners at the corners for San Diego, Sheets stepped to the plate and hit the first pitch of the at-bat into the right field bleachers to put the Padres ahead 10-8. Miller came on for the ninth inning and recorded a ground out before allowing a single to Troy Johnston. Miller got the next batter, Exequiel Tovar, to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning and the game.
