Coach John Tortorella said veteran Brandon Saad will draw in for Stone, who got hurt in the first period of Game 3 on Friday.

The Vegas Golden Knights will be without their captain for a crucial Game 4 against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night, as Mark Stone has been ruled out with an undisclosed injury. Head coach John Tortorella confirmed that veteran forward Brandon Saad will step into the lineup to replace Stone, who was hurt during the first period of Friday's Game 3.

Stone attempted to return to the ice after sustaining the apparent lower-body injury while chasing a puck, but he couldn't continue. The Knights went on to win that game 6-2, taking a 2-1 series lead. Before exiting, Stone registered a first-period assist on Shea Theodore's opening goal, adding to his impressive playoff totals of three goals and four assists in nine games this postseason.

A two-way force and the heart of the Golden Knights' lineup, the 33-year-old Stone posted 73 points in 60 regular-season games. Since joining Vegas late in the 2018-19 season, he has been a cornerstone of the franchise—becoming the first captain in team history and leading the Knights to the 2023 Stanley Cup championship, highlighted by a hat trick in the clinching victory.

Stepping into that big skates is Brandon Saad, a well-traveled forward who tallied nine points in 49 regular-season games for Vegas. Game 4 will mark his postseason debut this year, but he's no stranger to the pressure: Saad appeared in eight playoff games for the Golden Knights last spring. "Playoff hockey is the best time of the year, so I'm excited to get in and help the team win," Saad told reporters during the pregame skate.

Tortorella opted for Saad over Reilly Smith, who played all six games of Vegas' first-round series win over Utah but has been a healthy scratch for every game against Anaheim. With the series hanging in the balance, all eyes will be on how the Knights adjust without their captain.
