For only the third time in the 31-year history of MLS, a goalkeeper has scored a goal.

The latest person to accomplish the feat — and first since 2010 — is Toronto FC's Luka Gavran, who headed home a dramatic late equalizer in a 3-3 draw against the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, April 22.

With his side trailing by a goal in the dying moments at BMO Field, Gavran went up for a free kick. After the Union only partially cleared, Alonso Coello sent in a cross that Gavran rose up and met with his head, sending it over the onrushing Andre Blake and into the back of the net.

"I can't even remember what happened," Gavran, a 25-year-old Canadian, told the MLS 360 studio show after the game.

"I think there were 10 seconds left. I looked to the bench, and everyone was waving me down to go, so I was like, you know what? And then here, I thought [the referee] was gonna blow [the whistle]. I was like, 'OK, recycle my run,' and the rest was [history]."

Only two other goalkeepers had scored in MLS history: Danny Cepero was the first in 2008 for the New York Red Bulls, then Will Hesmer scored in 2010 for the Columbus Crew against Toronto FC.
