Gloucestershire have made a strategic move to bolster their struggling bowling attack, appointing former Bangladesh national coach Shane Jurgensen as a bowling consultant. The Australian brings a wealth of international experience to the County Championship Division Two's bottom side.

Jurgensen, 49, is a respected figure in the global coaching circuit, having served two stints as New Zealand's bowling coach and also leading the Fijian national team. His most notable success came during his time with Bangladesh, where he initially served as bowling coach before stepping up as interim head coach in 2012.

His impact was immediate, guiding the Tigers to a memorable 3-2 ODI series victory over the West Indies. This led to a permanent head coach role, under which Bangladesh achieved historic feats, including a 3-0 ODI series whitewash of New Zealand and a long-awaited Test victory.

This appointment comes at a critical time for Gloucestershire, who are seeking to reverse their fortunes after a heavy innings defeat to Durham. Jurgensen has signed a deal until the end of June, aiming to impart his knowledge to the club's playing group.

Gloucestershire's director of cricket, Jon Lewis, expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition, highlighting Jurgensen's "outstanding" coaching pedigree and leadership qualities developed from working with some of the world's best players.
