Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres exited Saturday's game against the Texas Rangers at Comerica Park before the fourth inning due to left side tightness, leaving fans and teammates concerned. The 29-year-old was replaced at second base by Hao-Yu Lee as the team announced he is currently under medical evaluation.
The injury came after a tense sequence in the first inning: Torres was thrown out at home plate while attempting to score from second base on Riley Greene's single. Rangers right fielder Ezequiel Duran delivered a strong throw to catcher Danny Jansen, cutting down Torres—who is known as the slowest runner on the Tigers' roster. Despite the play, Torres remained in the game and contributed an RBI single in the second inning. But by the fourth, he was forced to leave.
This adds to recent injury woes for Detroit, as the team also placed reliever Will Vest on the injured list with right forearm inflammation. The Tigers will await further updates on Torres' condition, hoping for a swift return for their veteran infielder.
