Joslyn Bricker, one of the state's top girls' basketball players, flips commitment from Butler to Indiana Wesleyan, choosing stability over D-I dreams.

In a significant recruiting shift, one of Indiana's premier high school girls' basketball talents has made a surprising decision. Joslyn Bricker, a top-ranked 2026 prospect, has flipped her commitment from NCAA Division I Butler University to NAIA powerhouse Indiana Wesleyan.

While the timing coincides with Butler parting ways with head coach Austin Parkinson, Bricker clarified that her choice was solidified over two weeks prior and was driven by a deeper factor: the desire for stability in an era of constant roster churn.

"Two-and-a-half weeks ago, we started noticing some of the Butler players were entering the transfer portal," Bricker explained. "The ones leaving were the ones I was really looking forward to playing with... I've always really valued the relationship side of it."

This realization became a turning point. After speaking with a departing player, Bricker concluded that her vision of building lasting team bonds was increasingly difficult in the current Division I landscape, where the transfer portal leads to widespread turnover each season.

It was a tough call for the Warsaw standout, who had long considered Butler her dream school and had built strong relationships with the coaching staff. She had chosen the Bulldogs last summer over several other Division I offers.

"I'd heard nothing but great things about (Butler) and did feel like it was a great fit," she said. "But it's not what I signed up for; not what I thought it would be. And it's not just Butler. It's everywhere." Her move to Indiana Wesleyan represents a conscious choice for a program known for its consistency, prioritizing team culture and long-term development over the prestige of the D-I label.
