Ruggiero won Saturday's ARCA race at Kansas in a chaotic finish

Gio Ruggiero's path to victory in Saturday's ARCA Menards Series race at Kansas Speedway was anything but straightforward, culminating in a chaotic overtime finish that will be talked about for weeks. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, who started the season with a win at Daytona, executed a dramatic late-race surge to claim his second consecutive checkered flag this year.

The race's defining moment came with just a handful of laps remaining. Ruggiero, running third and chasing leader Jack Wood, made contact with lapped car driver Dystany Spurlock while aggressively navigating traffic. The incident sent Spurlock's No. 66 into a sideways slide, but the driver making her national series debut performed a stunning save, keeping her car off the wall. The caution flag flew, setting up an overtime restart and completely resetting the battle for the lead.

On the restart, Ruggiero seized his opportunity, diving three-wide to power past Jack Wood and take the top spot. Wood's chance for a rebuttal vanished instantly as he was turned on the backstretch following contact with Gavan Boschele. This left Ruggiero to defend against a hard-charging Daniel Dye, who was making his first start back from a suspension. Ruggiero held firm, mastering the final laps to secure the win for his team.

In victory lane, Ruggiero acknowledged the aggressive drive, stating, "You just got to do whatever it takes to win. That's what I did." He addressed the contact with Spurlock, explaining he was trying to aggressively work through lapped traffic and "just kind of misjudged it," while expressing happiness to get the win for his team.

Behind Ruggiero and runner-up Dye, Jake Bollman completed the podium in third. Gavan Boschele and Lanie Buice rounded out the top five. Despite the late-race drama, Dystany Spurlock showcased impressive car control to recover and finish a respectable tenth in her series debut. The race also featured social media personality Cleetus McFarland, who finished 20th after encountering late-race issues.
