Could Odell Beckham Jr. be making a return to the New York Giants? According to head coach John Harbaugh, don't hold your breath just yet.
Speaking from East Rutherford, New Jersey, Harbaugh revealed on Saturday that while he's had "three or four" conversations with the former Giants star over the past week, a reunion is far from a done deal. "The goal for right now is for him to train and get as ready as he can be," Harbaugh explained. "Then we'll see where we're at at that time."
It's a cautious approach for a player who once lit up the NFL. Beckham, now 33, didn't play at all last season, and his 2024 campaign with the Miami Dolphins was a mere shadow of his prime—just nine catches in nine games. The explosive wideout who dominated from 2014 to 2018, racking up four 1,000-yard seasons in his first five years, has been slowed by injuries and the inevitable march of time.
Harbaugh emphasized that any potential deal needs to work for both sides. "It's got to be right for both parties," he said. "Odell wants to be the kind of player that can make a difference." But the coach's tone suggested the Giants are weighing some tough questions: Can Beckham still be an impact player? Will his body hold up? And is he willing to accept a smaller role on a team that already has a solid top-four receiving corps?
"I'm pretty sure that he can make a team in the National Football League right now," Harbaugh added. "Can he make a difference? Is it something he wants to do? All those things are questions that need to get answered for anybody at that age."
Beckham, true to form, remains confident. "You know Odell. He's confident. He's working hard. He believes in himself," Harbaugh said. "I think we'll just play it out over the next month and into training camp and see where we're at."
For now, it looks like the Giants are taking a wait-and-see approach. As OTAs and mandatory minicamp unfold over the coming weeks, the team will continue to evaluate its current roster. A decision on Beckham likely won't come until this summer, when his health and performance can be properly assessed. Until then, the superstar receiver will have to prove he's still got that game-changing spark.
