This has gone all bad for the Giants.

The San Francisco Giants took a massive gamble when they handed out a $313.5 million contract, but that bet is now threatening to derail their entire season. Paying any player $27 million per year comes with serious risk, and unfortunately for the Giants, that risk has become a crushing burden.

According to FanSided's Zachary Rotman, the contract has become virtually untradeable. "This contract has already been traded once, so maybe I'm underestimating the odds of it happening again, but I just can't see it," Rotman wrote. He noted that while the Giants are eager to move on from the deal, they would likely need to attach a significant package of prospects to find any takers. "Barring that, Devers might have the worst and most untradeable contract in the sport right now."

Rafael Devers has shown some recent signs of life at the plate, hitting .275 over his last 20 games with 19 hits and 10 RBIs. He's even rediscovered his power stroke, launching home runs in three of his last five contests. But these flashes of brilliance don't erase the larger concerns. The Giants understand that sustaining this level of production over a full season is far from guaranteed, and Devers' defensive limitations have significantly suppressed his trade value.

Rotman didn't mince words when assessing the situation: "To sum up, Devers is a bat-first DH who hasn't hit well really since being acquired by the Giants and doesn't do anything else well, either. He's this kind of player, while making nearly $30 million annually for the better part of the next decade. The Giants can want to offload this contract all they want, but good luck finding a taker."

With a 17-24 record, San Francisco finds itself 6.5 games behind the final Wild Card spot. The math is simple: if the Giants have any hope of reaching the postseason, Devers needs to transform back into the MVP-caliber hitter he once was. For now, that $313.5 million contract isn't just expensive—it's a weight that's sinking the team's playoff aspirations.
