Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Zachariah Branch, who is in the 2026 NFL draft, was arrested less than a week before the draft in Athens, Georgia. Branch was back in town for Georgia's annual spring game.

He was arrested early Sunday morning and booked at 1:26 a.m. ET, per the Athens-Clarke County booking report. Branch was charged with obstructing public sidewalks (prowling) and obstruction of law enforcement officer.

The Georgia all-time leader in single season receptions was released at 3:44 a.m. ET after posting $39 in bail. Both of Branch's charges are misdemeanors.

The Athens police sent a summary of what led to Branch's arrest to the Athens Banner-Herald.

"At approximately 12:20 a.m., as downtown establishments were closing, a large crowd gathered outside Cloud Bar. Despite the business preparing to close for the evening, individuals continued attempting to enter the premises.

Officers on scene issued multiple lawful commands directing the crowd to clear the sidewalk. Zachariah Branch was directly addressed by officers and warned to disperse. Mr. Branch refused to comply with these lawful orders.

As a result, Mr. Branch was arrested and charged with obstruction. He was also cited for obstructing a public sidewalk."

The timing of Branch's arrest is a bit concerning for NFL teams interested in him. However, based on the charges it is unlikely many teams will view this incident as a red flag and be deterred from drafting Branch.

Branch is projected as a second- or third-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft. His explosiveness and quickness help him accumulate yards after the catch. ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has named Branch as one of his favorite receivers in the draft.

The 2026 NFL draft starts on Thursday, April 23 from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
