Georgia football's offseason just hit a serious roadblock. Defensive back Ja'Marley Riddle, a winter transfer from East Carolina, was arrested last Friday, May 8, in Glynn County on two felony drug possession charges—plus a speeding citation—after police say he was clocked doing nearly 100 mph on I-95.

According to the Glynn County Sheriff's Office, an undercover officer spotted a red Dodge Durango flying past mile marker 44 and radioed ahead to uniformed officers. When they pulled Riddle over, the driver appeared "very nervous," and a strong smell of marijuana led to a vehicle search. Inside, police found a bag packed with packets of leafy substance labeled "marijuana" and several vapes marked "THC."

Riddle now faces charges of possession of marijuana over one ounce, possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance, and speeding. He posted bonds totaling $16,526 and was released the same day, according to the Glynn County Detention Center.

The Georgia athletics department acknowledged the incident in a statement: "We are aware of the charges and are actively gathering additional information. As this is an ongoing legal matter, we will not be providing further comment at this time."

Riddle joined the Bulldogs this winter after spending time at East Carolina. His spring was already hampered by a leg injury, though he managed two tackles and two pass breakups in the G-Day spring game. Now, off-field trouble threatens to sideline him just as he was working to make an impression in a deep defensive backfield.

For a program that prides itself on discipline and championship culture, this arrest is an unwelcome distraction. As the legal process unfolds, all eyes will be on how the coaching staff handles the situation—and whether Riddle can get back on track before the season kicks off.
