Bourne's softball team finally broke into the win column Monday, and they did it in emphatic fashion. After starting the season 0-14, the Canalmen erupted for a 21-3 victory over Mashpee, powered by a career day from Caroline Geake.
Geake was unstoppable at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. But she wasn't the only star—Nola Timo also shined, finishing 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Olivia Meda contributed as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
On the mound, Geake was just as dominant. She pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit and three earned runs while striking out five batters over five innings. It was a complete turnaround for a Bourne team that had been searching for its first win all season.
For Mashpee (4-9), the loss was tough but not without bright spots. Callie Dunn broke up a potential no-hitter with a 1-for-2 performance that included a walk and an RBI. Michelee Gonsalves, Qorey Bibbins, and Molly Brooks each scored a run for the Falcons, who struggled to contain Bourne's explosive offense.
Elsewhere around the Cape and Islands, Dennis-Yarmouth snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 23-7 win over Martha's Vineyard. The Dolphins (3-9) finally found their rhythm, while the Vineyarders (3-11) surrendered at least 23 runs for the fourth time this season.
In other action, Old Colony defeated Cape Tech 16-4, sending the Crusaders (4-7) to their second straight loss. Upper Cape fell just short in a 7-6 thriller against Bristol Aggie, leaving runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kenley Thomas and Brooklyn Kutil each hit two-run triples and scored twice in the losing effort.
Falmouth edged Barnstable 5-4 in a nail-biter, with Ellie Bennett going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and pitching a complete game with eight strikeouts. Tenley Briggs scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch, giving the Clippers (5-9) a much-needed victory.
Monomoy continued its strong season, rolling past Sturgis 17-3 in five innings. Kate Huse (3-for-4, one RBI), Lexi Totten (three walks), Willa Leighton (one walk), and Kiley Mawn (2-for-3, one walk, three RBIs) each scored three times for the Sharks (11-3). Kinsey Lister earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs over two innings.
Whether it's a breakout win like Bourne's or a heartbreaker like Upper Cape's, Monday's action showed just how unpredictable and exciting high school softball can be.
