Gary Neville has called on Manchester United to make four critical signings this summer, following their dramatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool that secured Champions League qualification for next season.
The match at Old Trafford was a rollercoaster of emotions. United stormed ahead in the first half with goals from Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, putting them firmly in control. But Liverpool roared back after the break, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo capitalizing on defensive errors to level the score. Just when it seemed the Red Devils might falter, young Kobbie Mainoo produced a moment of brilliance in the 77th minute, scoring the winner to send the home crowd into raptures.
Despite the victory, Neville was far from impressed with United's second-half performance. Speaking to Sky Sports, the former United captain laid out his summer wishlist: "I think United need a left-back for next season because Luke Shaw has played every game this year and he may struggle. They need a centre-back, 100%, and they need two midfield players."
After splashing most of their budget on attacking reinforcements in recent windows, United are now expected to prioritize strengthening their engine room. Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson remains their top midfield target, but Manchester City's interest could complicate any deal. Other quality options on the radar include Adam Wharton, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Sandro Tonali, all of whom could be available this summer.
In defense, the club is eyeing a new centre-back, with Nottingham Forest's Murillo and Tottenham's Micky van de Ven emerging as potential targets. A left-back is also a priority, especially with Tyrell Malacia expected to leave at the end of the season. Adding a quality winger would be ideal, given that Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are reportedly set to be sold.
With a busy summer ahead, United fans will be watching closely to see if the club can deliver the signings Neville believes are essential for sustained success.
