Former Chelsea stalwart Gary Cahill has thrown his weight behind Trevoh Chalobah, urging Thomas Tuchel to consider the versatile defender for England's World Cup squad this summer.

Chalobah, who earned his sole England cap in a defeat to Senegal last year, has been a revelation for Chelsea this season. Despite a frustrating injury that sidelined him during March's international break, the 26-year-old academy graduate has racked up an impressive 44 appearances across all competitions for the Blues. Now back to full fitness, he has five crucial games left to stake his claim for a spot on the plane to the World Cup.

Speaking to The Standard, Cahill highlighted Chalobah's remarkable consistency in a season riddled with defensive changes and injuries at Stamford Bridge. "When you look at the fringes, the will-they-won't-theys, that's where Trevoh is," Cahill explained. "Having seen Chelsea a lot this season, with all the changes and injuries at the back, he's been the constant—the most consistent defender for Chelsea."

The former England international was particularly impressed by Chalobah's mentality since returning from his loan spell at Crystal Palace. "His attitude has been tremendous," Cahill added. "The way he's produced the performances he has for Chelsea is a testament to his character."

While England boasts a wealth of centre-back options, Cahill believes Tuchel's prior knowledge of Chalobah from their time together at Chelsea could be decisive. "He knows Trevoh well, knows his personality, knows he can rely on him in certain aspects. He's in with a shout—he's performed very well this year."
