FSU softball fans have another reason to celebrate: star shortstop Isa Torres has been named one of 10 finalists for the prestigious USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award for the second straight season. The announcement came Wednesday, highlighting Torres's incredible consistency and dominance on the field.
This award is one of the highest honors in college softball, recognizing outstanding athletic achievement throughout the regular season. Torres has already been named the ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defender of the Year, and she's now in the running for national recognition. She's aiming to become Florida State's third National Player of the Year, following in the footsteps of Lacey Waldrop (2014), Jessica van der Linden (2004), and Darby Cottle (1982).
Torres is having a season for the record books. She currently ranks among the national leaders in nearly every major offensive category: third in batting average (.542), fourth in hits (90), fourth in on-base percentage (.605), sixth in total bases (168), eighth in slugging percentage (1.012), and eighth in total runs (74). She's also in the top 25 for doubles (18) and triples (6).
Already breaking FSU's single-season record for total runs, Torres is on pace to shatter school records for batting average, hits, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage. And she's not just a force at the plate—her defense has been nearly flawless. She didn't commit her first error until the ACC Tournament, making 160 consecutive plays without a mistake and finishing with just one error in 164 chances.
The top three finalists will be announced on May 18, and the winner will be revealed on May 26 in Oklahoma City. For now, Torres's remarkable season is a testament to her hard work and a proud moment for Seminoles fans everywhere.
