Frostburg State baseball is on a roll at the Mountain East Conference (MEC) tournament, securing two impressive wins to punch their ticket to the semifinals. The Bobcats (36-16) are proving they're a force to be reckoned with, and their bats are heating up at just the right time.
In Friday's matchup against Point Park, Frostburg never trailed, scoring in five of nine innings to cruise to a 14-8 victory. Ryan Bouma was the star of the show, going a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBIs—a performance that would make any baseball fan's jaw drop. Drew Jourdan also shined, finishing 4-for-4 with three RBIs, while Jackson Schalick and Jake Holler each added three hits to the offensive explosion. On the mound, Bryce Bauer delivered a solid six-inning outing, allowing five runs on eight hits with five strikeouts to keep the Pioneers at bay.
For Point Park (30-21), Trevor Jones provided a bright spot with a three-run home run in the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome Frostburg's relentless attack. Harold Boyce took the loss, surrendering nine earned runs in four innings.
The Bobcats' tournament journey began with a dramatic comeback on Thursday against Charleston. Trailing 6-0 after three innings, Frostburg rallied for a 12-6 victory. The turning point came in the fifth inning when Bouma launched a three-run home run to put the Bobcats ahead 7-6. Schalick followed with a three-run blast of his own in the sixth, stretching the lead to 10-6. Manny Hall added a solo shot in the seventh and finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Kamden Sowers earned the win in relief, tossing 3 1/3 strong innings with four strikeouts and just one earned run.
Next up, Frostburg faces Glenville State on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., with a spot in the championship game on the line. If their bats stay this hot, the Bobcats could be well on their way to a tournament title.
