From health crisis to 100lb transformation: Gina Carano’s jaw‑dropping comeback plans

Gina Carano has revealed that she weighed over 240 pounds at her lowest point before agreeing to return to fighting. Her last appearance in the cage was more than 16 years ago, and she’s faced some serious emotional challenges since then.

After more than 16 years away from the cage, Gina Carano is staging one of the most remarkable comebacks in combat sports history—and she's doing it after shedding an incredible 100 pounds.

The former MMA pioneer revealed she weighed over 240 pounds at her lowest point, battling pre-diabetes and struggling just to walk before agreeing to return to fighting. Now, she's set to face fellow legend Ronda Rousey tomorrow night at the Intuit Dome in California, and her transformation has stunned the sports world.

Both fighters have had to completely reinvent themselves for this bout. Rousey, who hasn't competed in nine years, has given birth to two children since her last fight. Carano, meanwhile, has spent years clawing her way back from significant health and emotional challenges.

In an emotional social media post to her 2.1 million followers, Carano opened up about the grueling journey that brought her here.

"I just weighed in at 141.4lb. Since September 2024 to today, May 15, 2026, I have lost 100lb," she wrote. "It hurts to say that and share, but I am going to share it because I worked so damn hard every week for over a year and a half to shed this weight. It did not happen overnight."

Carano credited the challenge of fighting Rousey as the motivation she needed to transform her life. "If it wasn't for having this incredibly challenging goal in fighting Ronda Rousey, I most definitely wouldn't have reached this. I was pre-diabetic, had trouble simply walking in September, and have been on the path to recovery to turn myself back into an athlete since then."

The road back wasn't easy. "It was hard, SO damn hard. There was so much to learn... ups, downs, plateaus, things I learned late I wish I learned earlier, trial by error—but I did it."

With just one more face-off remaining before they finally step into the cage, the anticipation continues to build for what promises to be an unforgettable night. For fans who love stories of perseverance and athletic redemption, Carano's journey is a powerful reminder that it's never too late to transform your body and your life—whether you're stepping into the cage or just into the gym.
