As the regular season winds down for boys volleyball teams across the area, every match becomes a learning opportunity—especially for teams with championship aspirations. On Thursday evening at Zionsville West Middle School, the Zionsville Eagles faced a tough test against Franklin Central, falling 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18). But for head coach Tyler Beeman, the scoreboard doesn't tell the whole story.

"We have played a lot of really strong teams – HSE, Roncalli – and we didn’t hold our own, we didn’t play well," Beeman said. "But now we have played other good teams like Carmel, North Central, Franklin Central today, and we look like a different team. The biggest issue we are struggling with is finding our consistency and fluidity. We saw a little bit of that tonight, but then would give up some silly points for no reason."

The Eagles came out firing in the first set, controlling the action and taking an early 1-0 lead. It looked like Zionsville had found its rhythm, but as the match progressed, the momentum shifted. Franklin Central adjusted its defense, putting up a stronger block that disrupted the Eagles' attack.

"They put up a little better of a block after the first set," Beeman noted. "We were able to do a lot of good hitting in the first set, and then we let their block take over."

Despite the loss, there are signs of growth. Zionsville has been testing itself against elite competition all season, and those battles are starting to pay off. After a tough stretch that saw the Eagles drop eight of 11 matches, they now sit at 11-11—a record that doesn't fully reflect the grit they've shown.

With only three matches remaining before the sectional tournament, the Eagles are focused on fine-tuning their game. Zionsville will be defending their sectional title, and Beeman believes his team is in a strong position to make some noise.

"It’s so hard to believe that the sectional is coming," Beeman said. "I feel like this season has gone by so fast. We are in a good spot to be extremely competitive in the sectional. Sectionals are going to look completely different around the state, there are a lot of really good teams out there and I hope we are one of them."
