Big Blue Nation, get ready to welcome a new enforcer to the paint. Mark Pope and Kentucky basketball have secured a major addition through the NCAA transfer portal, landing a commitment from veteran big man Franck Kepnang.

Kepnang, a 6-foot-11, 225-pound center originally from Cameroon, brings a wealth of experience and a shot-blocking presence that should excite Wildcats fans. His pledge was announced Saturday via the UK Sports Network's official social media channels, signaling another strong move for Pope as he builds his roster.

This will be Kepnang's seventh collegiate season, a journey that began at Oregon in 2020-21. After the NCAA paused the eligibility clock during the pandemic, he spent two seasons with the Ducks, appearing in 35 games and making five starts. He then transferred to Washington, where his path was marked by both adversity and triumph.

Injuries tested his resilience—a season-ending setback limited him to just eight games in 2022-23, and he combined for only 24 appearances over the next two seasons. But last year, Kepnang finally showcased his full potential. Starting 25 of 27 games for the Huskies, he emerged as one of the Big Ten's premier defenders.

Kepnang finished third in the conference in total blocks (55) and blocks per game (2.07) during the 2025-26 season, while averaging 6.2 points and 6.3 rebounds in nearly 23 minutes per contest. His shot-altering ability and rim protection are exactly what Kentucky needs to anchor its defense.

As Kepnang prepares for his seventh year of college basketball, he brings not just skill, but the kind of veteran leadership that can elevate a team. For Wildcats fans dreaming of a deep tournament run, this commitment feels like a piece that fits perfectly into Pope's vision.
