In a major boost for Moroccan football, France-born midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi has been officially cleared to represent the Atlas Lions, just weeks before the 2026 World Cup kicks off across North America.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed on Friday that FIFA's Status Chamber has approved Bouaddi's change of sporting nationality, making him immediately eligible for all international competitions. "This decision means Ayyoub Bouaddi is officially and immediately eligible to represent the Moroccan national team," the federation stated.
Born in Senlis, just north of Paris, to Moroccan parents, the 18-year-old currently plays for French Ligue 1 side Lille. Before committing to Morocco, Bouaddi had represented France at the under-21 level—a testament to his rising talent and the tough choices young stars often face when dual nationality opens doors.
This news adds to the excitement surrounding Morocco, which made history in 2022 as the first African team to reach a World Cup semi-final. Now, with fresh blood in the squad, the Atlas Lions are looking to build on that momentum.
The 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, promises to be a global showcase. Morocco kicks off their campaign on June 13 in New Jersey against Brazil in Group C, which also features Scotland and Haiti. Bouaddi's addition could be the spark that helps the Lions roar even louder on the world stage.
