The scenario in the World Cup commercial raised some doubts among fans.

Fox Sports is catching heat for a new World Cup ad that might be a little too optimistic for its own good. The network released a commercial this week imagining the U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT) actually winning the whole tournament—and fans are not holding back their skepticism.

The ad, set to the stirring tune of "The Impossible Dream," shows American star Christian Pulisic scoring the game-winning goal on a corner kick in the World Cup final. The scene then cuts to wild celebrations in streets and bars across the country, with Tom Brady cutting hair (yes, really) and "Miracle on Ice" hero Mike Eruzione clapping back at a doubter in a bar.

While the spot gave some fans chills and was generally well-received, plenty of viewers aren't buying it. The U.S. is currently ranked 16th in the world, and the idea of them lifting soccer's biggest trophy feels like a stretch to many.

"Not even a miracle can help the USMNT win a World Cup," one critic wrote. "They'd need all the refs on payroll."

Others took aim at Pulisic specifically. The AC Milan winger hasn't scored a goal for his club since December and hasn't found the net for the U.S. since 2024. "Keep that washed-up bum Pulisic off the roster," one commenter snapped.

The skepticism isn't just about one player, though. Many fans point to the team's ongoing struggle with chemistry, despite having several talented players in top European leagues. "We have really good players," one fan noted, "but we still haven't put together any team chemistry when playing for the USMNT."

The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, kicks off on June 11. Whether the U.S. makes a deep run or exits early, one thing is clear: Fox Sports has gotten people talking. And for a sports apparel brand, that kind of buzz—optimistic or not—is what gets fans excited to gear up and dream big.
