Another Wisconsin Badgers standout is taking the next step in his hockey career. Forward Jack Horbach, a four-year veteran of the Badgers' program, has signed an American Hockey League (AHL) contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization for the 2026-27 season.
Horbach's journey to the pros was built on consistency and clutch performances in Madison. Over 142 collegiate games, he tallied 39 career points, but his most memorable moment came this past season. Horbach delivered the game-winning goal in the NCAA tournament's Regional Semifinal against Dartmouth, showcasing the poise that professional teams covet.
His competitive fire was formally recognized years earlier when he earned the Badgers' Mike Richter Most Competitive Player Award during a sophomore season that saw him post career highs. Now, he joins a Penguins pipeline that is already preparing for the postseason, as their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has clinched a playoff berth.
Horbach will be part of a fresh wave of talent heading to the Penguins' system, joining other signees like defensemen Maleek McGowan and Tyler Duke. For Badgers fans and aspiring players alike, Horbach's contract is a testament to the development and opportunity found in collegiate hockey, proving that hard work in the NCAA can pave a direct path to the professional ranks.
