The recruiting battle for elite linebackers just got a lot more interesting. Four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II has officially committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide, choosing them over SEC rivals Georgia, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. The announcement, made on May 11, adds another promising talent to Alabama's 2027 class.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 190 pounds, Simon II is a force on the field. He currently plays for Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee, and is ranked as the No. 133 overall prospect and the No. 7 linebacker in the nation. His decision to join the Crimson Tide is a significant win for head coach Kalen DeBoer's program.

Both Alabama and Georgia are off to similar starts in their 2027 recruiting cycles. The Crimson Tide's class is currently ranked No. 35 nationally, but it's headlined by five-star quarterback Elijah Haven, who also chose Alabama over Georgia. While the Tide have only six commits so far, the caliber of players like Haven and now Simon II shows they're targeting top-tier talent.

Georgia isn't far behind, with the No. 31 ranked class in the country. The Bulldogs have secured commitments from five-star running back Kemon Spell and five-star tight end Jaxon Dollar, keeping them competitive in the SEC recruiting rankings. However, Georgia also only has six commitments at this stage, and they've recently lost two blue-chip cornerbacks—five-star Donte Wright flipped to Miami, and four-star Jerry Outhouse flipped to UCLA.

History suggests that Georgia typically builds the bulk of its class during June and July, so a slow start isn't uncommon for either of these SEC powerhouses. Still, with Alabama snagging another top linebacker recruit, the rivalry on the recruiting trail is heating up. For fans following the action, it's a reminder that the battle for future stars is just as intense as game day.
