From NBA champion to college sidelines, Marreese Speights is trading in his sneakers for a clipboard. The beloved former Golden State Warriors big man, affectionately known as "Mo Buckets," has been named the new head coach of the Polk State Eagles in Winter Haven, Florida.

Speights, who won an NBA title with the Warriors in 2015, brings a wealth of basketball experience to his new role. After a 10-year NBA career that included stints with the Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Orlando Magic, the 6-foot-10 center transitioned into coaching. He founded Speights Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida in 2021, then cut his teeth in the college ranks as an assistant at Georgia Southern and later as Director of Player Development at the University of South Florida. In 2025, he took his first head coaching job at Northside Christian School in Pinellas County, Florida.

Now, Speights is ready to lead the Polk State program. During his three seasons with the Warriors from 2013 to 2016, he averaged eight points and 3.8 rebounds in just over 13 minutes per game, shooting an efficient 46% from the field. His energy off the bench was a key ingredient in Golden State's championship run, where he appeared in three NBA Finals games.
