Former Tennessee defensive back William Wright has been waived by the Denver Broncos following the team's rookie minicamp, marking a tough but common transition for undrafted free agents in the NFL.

Wright, who played for the Vols from 2020 to 2025, appeared in 45 games during his college career. He recorded 28 tackles, two interceptions, three pass deflections, one touchdown, and 26 kick return yards. In his final season, the 6-foot, 198-pound defensive back played in 13 games, making his first career start in the Music City Bowl against Illinois. He also returned an interception 35 yards against New Mexico State on November 15, 2025.

The Broncos also waived running back Deuce Vaughn while signing free agent cornerback Paul Manning and wide receiver Michael Woods II to fill out their roster.

Off the field, Wright was a standout in the classroom, earning a spot on the Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll four times (2021, 2023–2025). A Nashville native, he attended Ensworth School, where he also competed in track and field.

For a young player with Wright's athletic background and discipline, this setback is just one chapter in what could still be a promising football journey. Whether he lands on a practice squad or takes another path, his resilience will be key.
