Former Tennessee pitcher Chase Burns (2-1) started for the Reds and pitched 5.2 innings. He recorded eight strikeouts and 97 pitches, including 63 strikes, against 23 batters. Burns earned his second win in 2026.
He allowed four hits (one home run), two runs (two earned) and two walks.
Burns played at Tennessee from 2022-23 and appeared in 35 games, including 22 starts. He recorded 217 strikeouts and compiled a 13-5 record, while totaling two saves.
Burns was selected No. 2 overall in the first round of the 2024 MLB draft by Cincinnati.
The Reds and Rays will conclude a three-game series on Wednesday at Tropicana Field. First pitch for the series finale is slated for 1:10 p.m. EDT. Cincinnati won the first two games against Tampa Bay.
