Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool is gearing up for another shot at NFL glory. The 26-year-old, once hailed as a rising star, has been invited to try out at the Green Bay Packers' rookie minicamp, according to Matt Schneidman. It's a fresh start for a player whose career has seen more twists and turns than a Hail Mary pass.
Claypool burst onto the scene as a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, electrifying Steelers fans with a rookie season that screamed "future superstar." He hauled in 62 catches for 873 yards and nine touchdowns, highlighted by a jaw-dropping four-touchdown performance against the Philadelphia Eagles. The 2021 season kept the momentum rolling, with 59 receptions for 860 yards and two scores. At that point, it looked like Pittsburgh had found a gem.
But the NFL is a league of what-have-you-done-lately, and Claypool's trajectory took a sharp turn. In 2022, the Steelers shipped him to the Chicago Bears for a second-round pick—practically a first-rounder at No. 32 overall—which Pittsburgh used to draft cornerback Joey Porter Jr. Claypool's stint in Chicago was brief, netting just 18 catches in 10 games. Then came a trade to the Miami Dolphins in 2023, where he managed only four receptions in seven games. A foot injury sidelined him after signing with the Buffalo Bills in 2024, ending his season on injured reserve without playing a snap.
Now, with a Packers tryout on the horizon, Claypool is looking to rewrite his story. For fans of the game, it's a reminder that talent alone doesn't guarantee a smooth ride—resilience and the right fit matter just as much. Whether he's donning green and gold or another jersey, this comeback attempt is one to watch.
