The 37-year-old played in 358 regular season games with the Boston Red Sox across five seasons and helped them win their most recent World Series title in 2018.

In a move that strengthens an already dominant roster, the Atlanta Braves have signed veteran catcher Sandy León to a major league contract. The 37-year-old backstop is no stranger to championship baseball, having helped the Boston Red Sox capture their most recent World Series title in 2018.

León spent five seasons with the Red Sox from 2015 to 2019, appearing in 358 regular season games. During his time in Boston, he posted a .223/.283/.339 slash line with 24 home runs and 118 RBIs across 1,191 plate appearances. He also contributed eight hits in 31 postseason at-bats during that memorable championship run.

Since leaving Boston, León has bounced around the league, playing for Cleveland (2020, 2022), the Miami Marlins (2021), the Minnesota Twins (2022), the Texas Rangers (2023), and most recently the Braves earlier this season. After being released by Atlanta on April 22, he spent time with Saraperos de Saltillo in the Mexican League, going 4-for-28 in 10 games.

León's return to the Braves comes at a crucial time, as Atlanta placed catcher Sean Murphy on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left middle finger. The Braves, who currently boast the best record in baseball at 28-13, are clearly looking to add experienced depth behind the plate as they continue their push for another deep postseason run.

For Red Sox fans, seeing a familiar face from that 2018 championship team land with baseball's best team is a reminder of how quickly the game changes—but also how valuable veteran experience can be when October rolls around.
