Luis Perez never got the chance to suit up for the Rams in a regular season game, but he will get the chance to play for a St. Louis football team after all. The former L.A. practice squad and training camp quarterback with a long pro career in some fashion was traded to the St. Louis Battlehawks in the UFL on Tuesday.

If you’re a St. Louis football fan who has continued to support the Rams since they moved to Los Angeles, then maybe rooting for Perez is a win-win.

Following a college career at Southewestern College and Texas A&M-Commerce, Perez went undrafted in 2018 and was invited to Rams minicamp. He did well enough to sign with the Rams as an undrafted free agent and played half of a preseason game against the Saints, not nearly enough to make his case to make the 53-man roster.

He had a stay on the practice squad that lasted less than three weeks.

From three, Perez has played in the AAF, the XFL, the Spring League, the USFL, and the UFL. He has also had stints with the Eagles, Chargers, Lions. And in 2022, the Rams brought Perez back for about one month in the offseason.

PFN’s James Larsen reported that the Renegades traded Luis Perez to the St. Louis Battlehawks in exchange for offensive tackle Corey Stewart. This move was made as Larsen noted that Battlehawks backup quarterback Michael Pratt is injured and St. Louis needed to add a third quarterback.

Perez has been with the Renegades since being traded midway through the 2023 XFL season from the Vegas Vipers, helping lead Dallas to a league title. In 20 UFL games, he has thrown for 4,605 yards and 27 touchdowns, with nine interceptions.

Perez was not a starter on his last team, nor will he be a starter on the next. But eight years after the Rams invited him to minicamp, Perez continues to play professional football.
