Big changes are underway at Barrow as the club prepares for life in the National League following their relegation from League Two. A total of six players will be leaving Holker Street this summer, including club captain Niall Canavan and midfielder Sam Foley, who stepped into the interim manager role during a turbulent final stretch of the 2025-26 season.
Foley, 39, was the fifth different man to take charge of a first-team game this campaign, assuming temporary control after Dino Maamria's departure in March. Under his leadership, Barrow managed just two wins from 11 matches, ultimately finishing at the bottom of the table and ending their League Two stay.
The club has already moved to secure a new permanent boss, with Adam Murray arriving from Kidderminster Harriers on a two-year contract earlier this week. Murray will have a rebuilding job on his hands, as a significant chunk of the squad moves on.
Veteran defender Canavan, 35, has been a loyal servant since joining in January 2022, making 183 appearances for the Bluebirds. He'll be joined out the exit door by Connor Mahoney, Tyler Walker, Kane Hemmings, and Angus MacDonald, all of whom are out of contract this summer. It's a clear reset for a side aiming to bounce straight back up.
On a brighter note, the club has triggered an option to extend goalkeeper Wyll Stanway's contract through next summer, securing a key piece for the National League campaign ahead. For fans, it's a time of transition—but with a new gaffer and fresh faces on the horizon, there's hope for a quick return.
