Former Fishers assistant Kaleb Oldham helped Tigers to state title. He was hired as boys basketball coach at Danville on Monday.

Kaleb Oldham is trading in his clipboard for a head coach's whistle, and he couldn't be more thrilled. On Monday, the 32-year-old was officially named the new boys basketball coach at Danville High School, a move he's calling his "dream job."

Oldham arrives with an impressive pedigree. Over the past six seasons as an assistant at Fishers, he helped the Tigers capture a Class 4A state championship in 2023-24 and compile a staggering 83-3 record over the last three years. He was a key part of the staff when Garrett Winegar took the reins in 2020, and now he's ready to lead his own program.

Danville is no stranger to hardwood success. The Warriors boast a rich tradition, with Brian Barber amassing 426 wins over 26 seasons before stepping down last year. His former assistant, Mark Artman, guided the team to a 10-15 record last season, but the foundation is strong—and Oldham is eager to build on it.

"I'm super excited to become the next head coach at Danville," Oldham said. "It's rare as a 32-year-old to get your dream job as your first job, but that's exactly what happened here. Danville has a rich history under Brian Barber, and I hope to replicate those type of seasons."

The cupboard is far from bare. Three of Danville's top five scorers are expected to return, including junior guard Carter Ward (11.6 points, 3.9 assists per game), junior Jacob Fultz (7.1 points), and sophomore Esaias Ennin (7.4 points, 4.3 rebounds). That's a solid core for a first-year head coach to work with.

Oldham, a 2012 Owen Valley graduate, also spent time on the Southport staff before joining Fishers. He credits his time with the Tigers as "completely life changing" and praised his former boss, saying Winegar "is destined to be a Division I coach very soon." He was equally quick to thank the players who made it all possible: "I wouldn't be here without guys like Jeffrey Simmons, Charlie Smith, Keenan Garner, and others. Everything is a credit to them."

The Danville school board approved Oldham's hiring Monday night. For a coach who helped build a state champion from the bench, this is the perfect next step—and for Danville, it might just be the start of something special.
