A former Denver Broncos QB who was a first-round pick suffered a terrible injury in the Arena League.

A brutal injury has cut short the latest comeback attempt of a once-promising NFL quarterback. Paxton Lynch, the Denver Broncos' first-round pick in 2016, suffered a torn LCL in his knee while playing for the Colorado Spartans of the National Arena League.

For Broncos fans, the name Paxton Lynch brings back memories of high hopes that ultimately went unfulfilled. Selected 26th overall after a stellar career at Memphis, Lynch struggled to find his footing in the NFL, making just four starts over two seasons in Denver.

His professional journey since his 2018 release reads like a map of alternative football leagues. Lynch bounced from NFL practice squads in Seattle and Pittsburgh to the CFL, then to the USFL and XFL, before landing with the Arena League's Spartans this season, earning $600 per game.

Tragically, his attempt to reinvent himself was halted in just his third game. Before the injury, Lynch had embraced his fresh start with a renewed mindset. "I was like, 'OK, if I play this year in arena football, I’m going to play as Paxton Lynch,'" he told The Denver Post. "I’m going to have full confidence in myself. I don’t really care. And that’s what I did. It felt good to do that again."

This devastating turn is a stark reminder of the physical risks athletes face at every level while chasing their passion for the game, long after the bright lights of the NFL have dimmed.
