Duke University's basketball program is synonymous with NBA talent, consistently funneling elite players into the league. However, the path from Cameron Indoor Stadium to the postseason isn't guaranteed, as several notable Blue Devils found their 2025-26 campaigns ending after the regular season's final buzzer.
While stars like Jayson Tatum and Paolo Banchero will be battling for a championship, a significant group of Duke alumni will be watching from home. The list includes key contributors and rising stars whose teams fell short of the playoff cut.
In the Eastern Conference, guard Tre Jones of the Chicago Bulls and sharpshooter Gary Trent Jr. of the Milwaukee Bucks will be absent from the playoff picture. Out West, the group is even larger, headlined by Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans, whose team's late-season struggles kept them out of the play-in tournament.
Interestingly, the Dallas Mavericks, despite having four Duke products on their roster in Marvin Bagley III, rookie sensation Cooper Flagg, Kyrie Irving, and Derrick Lively II, also failed to secure a playoff berth. They are joined by Utah Jazz big man Kyle Filipowski and Memphis Grizzlies wing Dariq Whitehead.
It's a reminder that in the NBA, individual talent must coalesce into team success, and even the most prestigious basketball pedigrees can't always secure a spot in the spring's most intense competition.
