The NFL community is mourning the loss of a respected and beloved figure. Dave McGinnis, the former Arizona Cardinals head coach and longtime Tennessee Titans assistant and broadcaster, passed away on Monday at the age of 74.

The Tennessee Titans announced his death, citing an illness that had first hospitalized him in early March. Known affectionately as "Coach Mac," his three-decade career in the league left a profound impact on players, coaches, and fans alike.

Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk captured the sentiment of many, stating, "My heart aches with the loss of Coach Mac, who was so much more than a coach and broadcaster — he was family. His passion, loyalty and love for the Titans never wavered."

McGinnis's NFL journey began in 1986 as the linebackers coach for the Chicago Bears, where he mentored Hall of Famer Mike Singletary. Singletary later reflected on his former coach's influence, saying, "I needed somebody like him."

After a decade in Chicago, McGinnis moved to the Arizona Cardinals, first as defensive coordinator in 1996 before taking over as head coach from 2000-2003. During his tenure, he coached notable players like the legendary Pat Tillman and future star Anquan Boldin.

Following his time in Arizona, McGinnis joined the Tennessee Titans, where he spent eight seasons as a linebackers coach and assistant head coach under Jeff Fisher. Fisher remembered him as a man who "treated people so well, and made everyone feel like they were important," a testament to his character that extended far beyond the playbook.

His legacy is one of dedication, mentorship, and a genuine love for the game and its people—a true embodiment of the spirit we celebrate in sports.
