Florida is among two college football programs working to flip Texas Tech commit and top overall 2027 prospect, defensive lineman Jalen Brewster.

The battle for the nation's top high school football prospect is heating up, and Florida is right in the middle of it. The Gators are among a select group of elite programs working to flip five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster from his current commitment to Texas Tech. Ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2027 class, Brewster is a game-changing talent who could reshape a program's entire future.

At 6-foot-3 and 302 pounds, the Cedar Hill, Texas, native is a rare combination of size, power, and athleticism. Despite pledging to the Red Raiders back in October 2025, Brewster's recruitment remains far from closed. Reports indicate that both Florida and Texas A&M are pushing hard to sway the elite defensive lineman, making this one of the most closely watched recruiting battles in the country.

For Gators head coach Jon Sumrall, landing Brewster would be a monumental statement. Florida has already made waves by signing five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller last month, signaling a clear commitment to building dominance in the trenches. Adding Brewster to that mix would create a formidable foundation on both sides of the line—a critical step toward closing the gap with the rest of the SEC.

Brewster has visited Gainesville multiple times this spring, and recruiting insiders say the Gators have made a strong impression. Staying in contention for a player of his caliber sends a clear message: Florida football is inching its way back to national relevance.

Pairing Brewster with Hiller would be one of the most significant recruiting successes in recent Gators history—a move that could spark a new era in Gainesville.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Brewster is ranked No. 1 overall and No. 1 at his position nationally. The Rivals industry ranking echoes that assessment. He has received 40 scholarship offers, including from 10 SEC programs, before committing to Texas Tech last October.

247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks describes Brewster as a "strong, explosive front-line defender with an impressive combination of size and athleticism." He adds that Brewster is "not overly long, but broad-trunked and powerfully built," and that he "flashes sudden redirection that fosters playmaking in the trenches." With experience playing both inside and in a two-point edge alignment, Brewster is the kind of versatile, disruptive force that championship defenses are built around.

The countdown to National Signing Day is on—and all eyes are on this Lone Star State star.
