Florida Gators recruiting is on fire right now, and it's all thanks to head coach Jon Sumrall setting the standard. Over the last four weeks, Sumrall has landed seven commitments, bringing the 2027 class to 10 total players—including five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller, the first Gators five-star O-lineman since Martez Ivey in 2015. That's five times the number of commits former head coach Billy Napier had at this point last season.
But it's not just the coaching staff making waves. The players and commits are getting in on the action too, and their efforts are making a real impact. Take top overall recruit Jalen Brewster, a defensive lineman from Texas Tech who's already visited Gainesville twice. Defensive line coach Gerald Chatman recently made the trip to Cedar Hill, Texas, to see Brewster in person—a move that shows the kind of communication that builds trust and could lead to a commitment.
And the Gators' current players are doing their part on social media. Four-star quarterback commit KJ Ford, a 2026 signee from Duncanville, Texas, took to X (formerly Twitter) with a simple but powerful message: "COME TO THE SWAMP @j8ylen__ 🐊🐊." It's a clear sign that the vibe in Gainesville has shifted, and it's exactly what this program needed.
Rivals' Steve Wiltfong has seen the transformation happen fast. "This staff, from Sumrall on down, is putting a huge emphasis on high school recruiting—pouring energy and resources into it," he said. "These prized recruits come to campus and have real relationships with Coach Sumrall and the coordinators. They're excited about the trajectory of a Florida program that, not long ago, was the most dominant in college football."
Sumrall has set a new tone, and it's resonating with everyone—from the coaching staff to the players to the recruits. The Swamp is back, and it's making a difference.
