The Florida Gators kicked off their crucial SEC series against Auburn in commanding fashion, securing a 6-3 victory on Thursday night to set a powerful tone for the weekend.
Once again, Aidan King was the story on the mound. The ace shook off a first-inning run to deliver a masterclass, retiring 10 consecutive batters and ultimately holding the Tigers to just one run over six strong innings. His performance set the stage for the Gators' offense to take control.
After Karson Bowen's RBI double quickly answered Auburn's early score, Blake Cyr provided the game's signature moment. In the third inning, Cyr unleashed a monstrous 397-foot, three-run blast that left the bat at 108 mph, breaking the game wide open and electrifying Condron Family Ballpark.
The Gators added valuable insurance in the fifth when Kyle Jones laced a two-run double to right field, scoring Cade Kurland and Landon Stripling. While Auburn mounted a brief rally in the seventh, the bullpen combination of Ernest Lugo-Canchola and Joshua Whritenour slammed the door shut. Whritenour, hitting 97 mph on the radar gun, locked down his seventh save of the season.
Offensively, Ethan Surowiec led the way with a multi-hit night, and every Florida starter except one found their way on base, showcasing the lineup's depth.
This pivotal win improves Florida's record to 28-11 overall and 10-6 in the SEC, keeping them firmly in the hunt, just one game behind Georgia for the conference lead. The series continues Friday at 5:30 p.m. ET with Liam Peterson taking the ball for the Gators, looking to clinch the series in front of the home crowd.
