Liverpool's young star Florian Wirtz has issued a rallying cry ahead of the Reds' massive Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain, calling for more composure and unity from his side. Following a heavy FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, Wirtz pinpointed a need to curb their "wild" tendencies to stand a chance against the reigning European champions.

"I think on the weekend, we tried too much at one point. It was a little bit wild on the pitch so we have to fix that for this game," Wirtz explained. The attacking midfielder emphasized that the squad must stick together through the tough moments they will inevitably face in Paris. "We need 90 minutes of full energy and full commitment, otherwise we will have no chance. We need to be together as a team also in difficult moments, if we concede we have to stick together, and believe we can win."

Reflecting on his own debut season at Anfield, which began with a high-profile transfer last summer, Wirtz admitted it hasn't gone entirely to plan. With the Premier League title now a distant target, he stressed the importance of finishing the campaign strong. "We’re still in the Champions League now so there’s still something to play for. Also qualification for the Champions League next season. We still have some goals we want to achieve."

Amidst growing pressure on manager Arne Slot, Wirtz was unequivocal in his support for the Dutch coach. "We believe in the manager," he stated firmly. "The team should believe in the manager because the team won the league last season. We had a lot of good games this season."
