The Calgary Flames dropped a 3-1 decision to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Calgary Flames couldn't capitalize on home ice Tuesday night, falling 3-1 to a potent Colorado Avalanche squad at the Scotiabank Saddledome. In a game that was tight until the final minutes, the Flames' young lineup showed fight but ultimately couldn't match the Avalanche's finishing power.

With several regulars sidelined, the Flames turned to youth. AHL recall Rory Kerins slotted in, and goaltender Dustin Wolf got the nod between the pipes, facing a Colorado team missing former Flame Nazem Kadri due to injury. The first period was a feeling-out process, with Colorado holding a slight edge in shots but no goals to show for it.

The Flames struck first in the second period, showcasing perfect execution on a gritty play. Captain Mikael Backlund fired a shot from the point that a battling Blake Coleman expertly redirected past Mackenzie Blackwood for his 20th goal of the season. The lead was short-lived, however, as Avalanche superstar Cale Makar showcased his elite playmaking, setting up Artturi Lehkonen to tie the game just minutes later.

The third period was a tense, playoff-style battle. The game seemed destined for overtime until the Avalanche broke the deadlock with under three minutes to play. A faceoff win led to a point shot and a crucial tip by Gabriel Landeskog that found its way past Wolf. Nathan MacKinnon would seal the victory with an empty-net goal, securing a milestone 100-point season for teammate Martin Necas.

Despite the loss, there were bright spots for the Flames. Dustin Wolf was spectacular, making 37 saves and keeping his team in it with several highlight-reel stops, including a breakaway denial on Makar. Rookie Aydar Suniev also made a strong impression, using his speed to create four shots and multiple high-quality chances. The night also featured a classy moment, as Nazem Kadri received a warm standing ovation and video tribute from the Calgary faithful during the first period.
