While the Nittany Lions have had a successful past weekend on the recruiting trail, they still have not yet added the highly coveted five-star that could take them over the top. That could all change soon should Will Mencl sign with the Blue and White. While Mencl had been a four-star for most of the cycle, just ahead of his commitment date, set for Wednesday evening, Rivals changed his ranking to five stars. This adds more intrigue to the Nittany Lions' pursuit of his signature.

Not only is the young QB highly coveted by several schools, but he could also be Penn State's first signing in the class on the offensive side of the ball. While some might say they may not need more depth in the QB room, Mencl's unique traits stand out on tape.

Mencl is the highest-ranked QB in the class coming out of Chandler, Arizona, and has the statistics to prove it. In his junior season, he threw for 3,815 yards and 3 touchdowns on a 70.3 completion percentage. He showed off his dual-threat abilities as well, rushing for 741 yards and a whopping 17 scores. Furthermore, Rivals categorizes him as a true winner. "A high-level processor who is able to locate open receivers and read defender leverage. Made tough throws over the middle of the field as a junior. Also proved to be a dangerous run threat on designed keepers", Rivals said of Mencl's best assets.

For the Nittany Lions, Mencl could be someone they could go all in on despite the signing of Peyton Falzone in this year's class. Otherwise, they could be setting up for a feisty QB competition next year in Happy Valley. But first, Mencl must decide whether Happy Valley is right for him.
