The First Coast golf scene has been buzzing with impressive performances and exciting tournaments. Let's tee off with some highlights from the past week.
Aces and Eagles
Two lucky golfers recorded holes-in-one recently. At Ponte Vedra Inn and Club's Lagoon Course, Allen Ludecke aced the 118-yard third hole with a gap wedge. Bill Hammel also found perfection at San Jose, sinking his tee shot on the 112-yard eighth hole with a 9-iron. Talk about shots that make you want to upgrade your wedge game!
Jacksonville Women's Association Championship
The WGA Championship concluded at Marsh Landing with Tama Caldabaugh taking the overall title with a 229 total. Therese Quinn (237) led the Championship division, while Debbie Caruso (261) topped the Senior division. In the Super Senior division, Chris Hunt (248) took top honors. Flight winners included Shari Zeimetz (gross) and Xiaolin Tian Jones (net) in Flight 1, with standout low gross scores from Jeri Roche (76) and Dot Peck (85).
North Florida Junior Foundation Titleist Open
Young stars shined at St. Johns Golf Club. Alexia Iordanov claimed the overall girls title with a solid 153 total, edging out Lilly Mrozik (158) and Olivia Connell (160). On the boys side, Cole Slater and Colson Hale battled to a tie at 148, with Slater taking the win on a scorecard playoff. Beckham Cummings fired the low round of the tournament with a 71 in the first round, finishing sixth overall.
